When I create sculpture in a spontaneous manner, upon completion, I often attach a title to the piece. The title usually reflects an idea or issue I've been pondering during the creative process.
"The Simplicity of Tolerance" is just such a title.
Created as a site responsive sculpture for the 2004 On The Edge Sculpture Invitational, "Simplicity" is a low profile sculpture, again, composed of spontaneously bent 1" solid steel rod, grouped in two interactive forms, and mounted to an intersecting 12" wide steel beam. The vibrant colors were chosen to contrast and complement the grays and greens of it's setting at the Harbor Steps in downtown Seattle, across from the Seattle Art Museum.
At the completion of OTE 2004, Lee Musgrave, sculpture curator at the Maryhill Museum of Fine Art chose "Simplicity" to be included at the 10th annual Sculpture Invitational at Maryhill, where it was on display through November 2005.
